Educational development

At KEA – Design & Business, I have been part of a passionate team dedicated to developing innovative and industry-relevant courses at the PBA level within design, communication, and innovation. I played a key role in the development of the PBA in Communication Design & Media, contributing to curriculum design, ensuring a strong focus on both personal and creative development, professional skill-building, industry relevance and innovative and design driven problem-solving.

In addition to this, I have created several elective courses for PBA students, covering topics such as visual communication, photography/film, storytelling, social design and trend forecasting & ethnographic research.

My responsibilities have also included facilitating professional development for assistant professors at KEA, guiding them in the writing proces around pedagogical methods and teaching practices in relation to design practice.

This work reflects my commitment to fostering engaging, future-oriented education that bridges academic learning with real-world application.

Supervision Experience and Approach

I bring extensive experience in supervising both individuals and groups in higher education, particularly in guiding students through the development of creative design projects and the cultivation of their unique professional identities. As the principal supervisor for both Bachelor's and Master's students, I have adeptly supported them throughout their academic journeys, ensuring they are well-prepared for their final examinations.

My supervision approach is based in a collaborative approach employing narrative techniques to foster a reflective and supportive environment and a sharing relationship. I integrate project guidance with career counseling conducive to personal and professional growth. This approach aligns with best practices in student-centered learning, which emphasize active participation and critical thinking. I have taught in many creative institutions and I believe the us of creative methods and narrative approaches can be used as constructive and innovative pathways for learning and development in project research&development and processes as well as career supervision.

In addition, I have provided tailored support to young individuals facing challenges such as ADHD and anxiety, adapting my guidance to meet their specific needs. My comprehensive training in coaching, conflict management, and supervision enables me to cultivate constructive environments where conflicts are not only minimized but also addressed as valuable learning opportunities. This aligns with recognized high-impact supervision practices that emphasize professional development and reflective one-on-one interactions.

My overarching objective is to empower students to fully realize their potential, effectively navigate challenges, and achieve their aspirations within a collaborative and encouraging setting. This commitment reflects the qualities of an effective supervisor, including strong interpersonal skills, the ability to listen carefully, and a genuine interest in the development of others.

Research

My research is centered around visual didactics, collaborative practices and productive exchanges between social design and feminist technoscience. I am particularly interested in the relation between visual storytelling, identity and agency.  I have explored the idea of “Story:labs” - inspired by the design:lab (Binder & Brandt, 2008) as social spaces where designers and participants join together around an issue to design, create and speculate. In all my projects I have a distinct focus on material oriented and visual approaches and methods.

Den Blå Bog Forsorgsmuseet

“Den Blå Bog” is a project developed in collaboration with the Danish Welfare Museum in Svendborg, DK and their project "Fra Udsat Til Værdsat", where the museum collaborates with people who have experienced social vulnerability during periods of their lives. In connection with this project, Stine Behrendtzen and I were initiators and developers, as well as facilitators of a series of Story:Labs. Through evocative design tasks, the participants were invited to translate their life experiences into pictures, collages, photographs and words. One result of these story:labs was a photo book that we designed and published in collaboration with 13 of the participants. The project is a KEA research and development project.

Forgreninger

Forgreninger is a research project/my post doc project from the Lab for Sustainability, DSKD in collaboration with Kolding Stadsarkiv. Based on the rich archive of the founder of Geografisk Have Aksel Olsen (which contains a wealth of evocative photographs and detailed botanical illustrations), we investigated how stories from the past can inspire sustainable and ecological action in the future. The intention was to make sustainability issues concrete via direct engagement with archival material from the past that focuses on human and plant relationships. The project was completed in the summer of 2022 with a co-curated exhibition in collaboration with Geografisk Have, Kolding Green Streets and Nicolai Kultur, as well as Kolding Stadsarkiv.
